SMS / Text Messaging
MedsYet.com sends automated SMS medication and health reminders to patients and caregivers in the United States. This section describes how we collect, use, and protect information related to our text messaging program.
Data collected for messaging
- Mobile phone number
- Medication schedule and care-task details
- Reminder timing preferences and time zone
- Message delivery status and replies (e.g. YES, STOP, HELP)
How we use messaging data
We use the information above solely to operate the SMS reminder service, including:
- Sending medication and health-task reminder messages
- Sending follow-up texts when a reminder goes unanswered
- Sending one-time opt-in confirmation messages
- Processing STOP, HELP, and other standard replies
Opt-in process
Consent to receive text messages is always confirmed directly on the recipient's phone before any recurring reminders are sent. For a full public, step-by-step walkthrough of how we collect consent, see our SMS opt-in page. We support two setup paths:
Caregiver setup (setting up for a loved one):
- A caregiver signs up at medsyet.com/signup and agrees to our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy.
- The caregiver enters the recipient's mobile phone number.
- We send a one-time opt-in SMS to the recipient asking them to reply YES to confirm they consent to receive automated reminders.
- Only after the recipient replies YES do recurring reminder messages begin.
Self setup (you are both the account holder and the recipient):
- You sign up at medsyet.com/signup, choose "for myself," and agree to our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy.
- You enter your own mobile phone number.
- We send a one-time opt-in SMS to your phone asking you to reply YES to confirm consent to receive automated reminders.
- Only after you reply YES do recurring reminder messages begin.
In both paths, the mobile phone number that will receive messages must reply YES from that device. We do not use purchased phone number lists, and we never send unsolicited messages. Consent is not transferable — each recipient must individually confirm opt-in, and either party can opt out at any time by replying STOP.
Backup / emergency contacts:
- An account holder may add a few backup contacts who can be alerted if the patient does not confirm an important medication.
- Each backup contact is sent a one-time opt-in invite that names the patient and explains what they will receive.
- A backup contact receives alert texts only after they reply YES from their own phone; if they never reply YES, they receive no further messages.
- A backup contact can opt out at any time by replying STOP, and can reply HELP for help. Each backup contact's consent is tracked separately from the patient's.
Because opt-outs are also enforced at the mobile carrier level, a contact who previously replied STOP must text START themselves before texts can resume — we never override a STOP.
Message frequency
Message frequency varies based on your reminder schedule and may include pre-reminder, reminder, and follow-up messages. Typical users receive 1–6 messages per day depending on their care tasks.
Message and data rates
Message and data rates may apply.
No sharing of mobile information
We do not share, sell, or provide your mobile phone number, opt-in data, or messaging consent to any third parties for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile information collected as part of the SMS program will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
Opt-out
You may opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP to any message you receive from us. After opting out you will receive one final confirmation message and no further texts.
